Six Harbour Walk - 2016

Beneficiaries of the 2016 Six Harbour Walk

Renewable World- Powering people out of Poverty. 1.4 billion people in the world have no access to energy. 140 million hours per day are spent fetching and carrying water. Renewable World work in some of the poorest communities in the world to develop and install sustainable renewable energy systems: biogas; solar/wind energy hubs; solar pumps; hydraulic ram water pumps. They do not provide hand-outs. They provide the tools people need to power themselves out of poverty and build better lives. They ensure that community members are trained in maintenance, that they can meet upkeep costs, and that energy is distributed fairly. Diabetes UK - There are currently four million people in the UK living with diabetes, including an estimated 549,000 people who have Type 2 diabetes, but do not know it. A further 11.5 million people in the UK are at increased risk of getting Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes UK cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of every person affected by or at risk of diabetes. They provide information, help and peer support, so people with diabetes can manage their condition effectively.  Diabetes UK is one of the largest funders of diabetes research in the UK.

Grampian Kidney Patients Association - Patients who suffer from renal failure need to attend a renal unit three times weekly for over four hours of treatment, as well as manage a restricted diet and fluid allowance. Many patients have to travel long journeys to and from their treatment centre. Four satellite units have been set up in the north of the region through charitable donations. Funds are currently being raised for a Stonehaven dialysis unit.

Buckie & District Cancer Support Group - Finished treatment? Just been diagnosed with cancer? Someone you know has cancer? Looking after someone with cancer? The Buckie & District Cancer Support Group is a voluntary organisation providing emotional and practical support to patients, relatives, carers and friends of those involved with cancer. Services provided include befriending, bereavement support, cancer information materials, complementary therapies, counselling, home visiting, information, support from health professionals, telephone helpline, transport service, and equipment loan. The group is affiliated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Local Voluntary Organisations and Charities - Rotary International works worldwide, nationally and in the local community, to support people in need, build communities and transform lives. The Rotary Club of Buckie encourages local voluntary organisations and charities to apply for support.
